Energy Rating Labels

As energy costs continue to rise, it is essential for consumers to be able to compare the energy efficiency of different appliances. To assist with this, the Government has introduced a statute requiring all appliances to have an energy rating label.

This label is designed to be easy to read and understand so that consumers can make informed decisions when choosing a new appliance. The new energy rating label was implemented from 1 March, 2021.

Discover How New Energy Classes A+, A++ and A+++ Have Improved Appliance Efficiency

Are you confused about the new energy classes A+, A++, and A+++? Originally introduced in the 1990s, the energy labeling system was designed to give customers information on appliance efficiency. With the advent of improved technologies, three new energy classes were launched in 2011. These classes soon became commonplace, leaving customers with little differentiation between products and resulting in confusion.

Learn more about why energy ratings have changed and the improved appliance efficiency that comes with it.

What Has Changed?

Discover the new scale against which products are judged, ranging from A to G, which applies to refrigerators, washing machines, washer dryers, wine coolers, and dishwashers.

Each new label now features a QR code in the top right-hand corner which you can scan with your phone to find out more information about the appliance and its energy rating. The Union Jack will now be displayed instead of the EU flag as a result of Brexit.Appliances have not become less efficient, they are just rated against different measures.

The new labelling system also makes it harder to achieve an A or B rating, meaning fewer products will hold the top energy efficiency rating. This should motivate and incentivise manufacturers to keep innovating and developing new eco-friendly appliances.
